Ubisoft Removes Ubisoft Connect Requirement for Some Steam Games
Ubisoft is making a change that could simplify the way players launch its games through Steam. The company has announced the removal of the Ubisoft Connect requirement for launching certain Ubisoft titles purchased on Steam.
Previously known as Uplay, Ubisoft Connect serves as the publisher’s digital storefront and launcher. When players launched many Ubisoft games purchased through Steam or the Epic Games Store, the additional service would also open before the game could start.
The company describes the change as an initial step toward creating a smoother launch experience. By removing an additional launcher from the process, Ubisoft aims to reduce the number of steps players have to go through before getting into their games.
According to the announcement, some Ubisoft games available on Steam will now be able to launch without requiring Ubisoft Connect to open during every session.
However, Ubisoft has not yet provided a complete list of the games included in this initial change. It also remains unclear whether the new system will eventually apply to the publisher’s entire Steam catalog.
The announcement could represent a broader shift in how Ubisoft handles the relationship between its own services and third-party PC storefronts. For players who use Steam as their primary gaming platform, removing an additional launcher could make accessing Ubisoft titles more straightforward.
At this stage, Ubisoft has not provided a detailed implementation schedule or explained whether there will be technical limitations for specific games.
More information is expected as the company continues to roll out the change and clarifies which titles will benefit from the new Steam integration.
